Life in Dowagiac takes a quiet turn at the end of the day, as people
return to the comfort of their homes. Nearly
a century of varied architectural styles are found within this southwestern
Michigan community of Victorian homes and tree-lined boulevards.
From the beautiful lakefront homesites of neighboring Sister Lakes,
to serene country settings and the convenience of in-town living,
The Grand Old City has it all. Families can enjoy the good life in
Dowagiac, where quality housing is affordable for the new homebuyer,
growing family or retiree.
Recent years have welcomed a surge in new construction and, thanks
to the city's housing assistance grants, the rehabilitation and remodeling
of more than 100 older homes.

The scenic country setting of Rudolphi Woods Subdivision offers low-cost,
quality homesites in an elegant setting. A nearby wildlife refuge
enhances its rolling topography. While the development is located
within the city limits, residents say it's common to see deer and
even a wild turkey, or two, roaming the land.
Originally
introduced by the City of Dowagiac, Rudolphi Woods Subdivision is
now owned and marketed by St. Joseph developers Charles and June Rollinger.
It provides paved streets, curbs and storm systems, and underground
utilities. To view Phase I, take Division Street to Riverside Drive,
then turn left onto Dogwood Circle.
Located in Pokagon Township on M-51, just south of the city, is Merrywill
Shores, a new subdivision developed by Dowagiac resident Andy Merrill.
A stately gate of fieldstone welcomes potential buyers to Phase I
development that features 17 homesites. When the subdivision is completed,
it will include three man-made bodies of water and 92 homes.
For those families who prefer maintenance-free living, Villamere Condominiums,
located on Dowagiac's east side, offer detached single-family villas
on 34 acres that adjoin the picturesque Mill Pond. Developed by Thomas
Jerdon, owner of Jerdon Development Co. Inc. and a broker with Jerdon
Real Estate, all sites are individually owned and deeded. Homeowners
can choose from eight villa designs. Phase III provides another 14
sites in a wooded, open or cul-de-sac location.
