Nestled within Michigan's Fruit Belt, Dowagiac
is surrounded by rolling farmlands, abundant orchards and roadside
fruit and vegetable markets.
Dowagiac
Farm Market
Farm-fresh produce and luscious, sun-ripened fruit are only steps
away at the Dowagiac Farm Market, located in the downtown at Main
and Front streets. The finest selections are available on Mondays
and Thursdays, from June through August. For market hours or to
reserve free vendor space, call the Dowagiac Downtown Development
Authority at (269) 782-8148.
Wicks' Apple House & Cider
Mill
A
splendid country retreat for the whole family and a must-see destination
for day-visitors is Wicks' Apple House & Cider Mill, located
eight miles outside Dowagiac at 52281 Indian Lake Road.
By the piece, pound or bushel, you'll find locally-grown fruit and
vegetables, from apples to zucchini. Asparagus opens the season
in May, as apples and concord grapes signal the return of autumn.
The indoor market also offers a wonderful selection of Michigan
wine, preserves, maple syrup, popcorn, caramel apples, cheese, fudge,
plus gourmet food and salad dressings.
Visitors are sure to enjoy its Orchard View Restaurant, Country
Kitchen Bakery, Apple Tree Gift Shop and Century-old Cider Mill.
Children will delight in exploring the Cornfield Maze Adventure
and Haunted House in the fall. Ciderfest on Columbus Day Weekend
features narrated wagon rides on the centennial farm and country
music.
For seasonal hours or to book a group tour, call (269) 782-7306
