Now in its 19th year, the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival brings the best in fine arts to Michigan. The week-long festival in mid-May is a Dowagiac tradition, which each year features nationally-recognized visual and performing artists, and authors. Venues across the city feature visual arts, music, literature, theatre, storytelling, and master classes with selected artists.

Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union is a locally-operated and member-owned, non-profit financial institution. It provides services to anyone who lives or works in Dowagiac and the surrounding area, which includes Wayne, LaGrange, Silver Creek, Pokagon, Penn, Volinia, Marcellus, Decatur and Paw Paw townships in Cass and Van Buren counties.

Its products and services range from Savings and Checking Accounts to a Money Management Account, IRA and Term Share Accounts and even a Kid's Club. It also offers many types of loans to fit one's financial needs.

The credit union's Board of Directors is comprised of seven members who have been elected from the membership of the credit union. There is a three-member Supervisory Committee, which is appointed by the Board of Directors. Credit union volunteers give their time freely and receive no compensation.

The Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union was organized in September 1972 by the Sundstrand employees. In 1978 it became a Community Chartered Credit Union.

The Dowagiac District Library offers its patrons more than 42,000 items in its growing collection of best sellers, children's titles and research sources. Its catalogue can be accessed online at http://ddl-verso.auto-graphics.com

The Dowagiac District Library also provides the public with Internet access, word processing, fax and copy machines, and micofilm of local newspapers and genealogical resources.

Residents, who live within its service area, may obtain a library card, which allows them to check out print and audio books, videos and magazines. The facility is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Housing to qualified residents is provided through the Dowagiac Housting Commission at Chestnut Towers and Parkside Townhouses.

Chestnut Towers features: independent living, handicapped accessibility, elevators, hot lunches provided by Cass County Council on Aging, an on-site library provided by the Dowagiac Public Library, and an on-site laundry facility.

Parkside Townhouses feature spacious floor plans with two to three bedrooms, and a washer hook-up within each unit.

Rental vouchers, through the Section 8 Housing Program, are also available through the housing commission.
